Anybody who uses computers and stores a lot of information knows that you should always back up important files and information in case anything crashes and everything is lost. Since I haven't been doing that lately, I decided today would be as good time as any to do so. I've been synchronizing my web design and graphic design to my laptop HDD, a 4GB microSDHC card, and my web hosting that I'm using as a file dump. I, also, ended up going through the my web design files to reorganize and delete anything I wanted to get rid of. Doing so, I came across my old portfolio designs... hence the journal title. For once, I managed to preserve all of my designs in working condition (CSS, images, and HTML files all intact!), so I figured I would showcase them to show my progression over the past 4 years.
VERSION ONE:
[link]- This is one of my first designs without tables, and it actually WORKS. During this time, small, pixel fonts were pretty popular, so going with that theme, I made it nice and tiny. As the page says, there's nothing there. Shocking, right? Seeing as I am never happy with a design, this leads to...
VERSION TWO:
[link]- Now, you'll see a HUGE leap in the design quality and complexity. Mostly this is due to me continually tweaking the design over and over again. This is probably more accurately described as version 2.4 or so. This version is where my personal logo comes into play. It's weird to think that it is over 3 years old (November '06) already.
VERSION THREE:
[link]- Honestly? I have no clue what I was thinking with this design other than I needed something more complex, right?! This layout (and Reverence) is where I started to branch out in concept. This site is a failure in the overall result, but it definitely made me think outside of the box. Also, notice a change in color scheme. Not sure why, but it carried over to...
VERSION FOUR:
[link]- Here's really about the time where I've started to get comfortable in my designing. Again, here's me trying new design ideas. I like the idea, but it had a couple of pitfalls. One, the background was just a large file, and it was slow to load. Even with broadband speeds. Two, IE didn't like it. I was working to fix it, but then i got inspiration for...
VERSION FIVE:
Personal Portfolio v5- As you have noticed, there is no link to any coded version of this site. Why? I stopped liking the design a day or two after I created it. This is the perfect example of me never being content with things after I create them. My biggest qualm is the content. I just was never comfortable with how it came out.
VERSION SIX:
[link]- Now we are current. Once I created this design, I've loved it ever since. This was originally designed in November/December of '08. It's now '10. Are you shocked? Well, you should be. Though, one thing that shouldn't shock anybody is that this is still not finished being coded. Hell, it's not even finished being designed yet. I'm still in that process, but it's continuing to look better and better as I continue. I'm intent on finishing this by 2011.
And there you have it. My portfolio designs from 2006 to the present. You should be glad that I didn't show off my designs from BEFORE 2006.
Those things will hopefully never see the light of day ever again.
